KRAISS & FRIZ stands both for 150 years of tradition and for an open mind towards progress and new technology. As a medium-sized, owner-managed family business, our activities range from the production of industrial and medical gases through the manufacture of oxy-fuel equipment to installation engineering for gases and the trade in gas equipment of all kinds.
From filling our own gases through our own installation engineering to logistics with our own fleet, we can guarantee a high level of reliability day to day. What began in 1874 as a pioneer of carbon dioxide for beer dispensing is still run today — across four generations — as an independent family business.

Head office and administration
From the head office in Neckarstraße we look after customers in the region and beyond. This is also where our pressure regulators are made and repaired, and where the barbecue showroom is.

Production and filling
The oxygen plant produces and fills industrial and medical gases. The site also houses the LPG division and the 24/7 propane vending machine. It is an establishment under the Seveso III Directive.

Gustav Kraiss and his friend Karl Friz open a mechanical workshop in Stuttgart — from the start it involves carbon dioxide for beer dispensing.
1905
After the death of Gustav Kraiss, his second-eldest daughter Emilie takes over the management of the company.
1919
Emilie Kraiss and her husband, the engineer Franz Lohr, start their own equipment production: pressure regulators for high-pressure gases, oxy-fuel welding and cutting equipment.
1924
Franz Lohr builds the company's own oxygen plant in Stuttgart-Berg.
1944
Incendiary bombs destroy the oxygen plant in Stuttgart-Berg completely and half of the building in Neckarstraße. Production moves to Grunbach, today part of Remshalden.
1948
A completely new air separation unit goes into operation in Grunbach, now producing liquid nitrogen as well.
1990s
The company invests in a fleet for cryogenic liquefied gases and is among the first in Germany to adopt 300 bar cylinder technology.
2012
We place our own medical oxygen product, KUFVITA 100% (V/V), on the market (marketing authorisation no. 75085.00.00).
2021
The historic Rommenhöller works in Remshalden — once the “Kohlensäurewerk Rommenhöller, Werk Grunbach bei Stuttgart” — becomes part of KRAISS & FRIZ.
2024
We celebrate 150 years in business, owner-managed and in family hands for four generations.
2018–2025
Completed in June 2025: an open plant and office building in steel, glass and timber, next to the historic Rommenhöller site.
Today
Head office in Stuttgart, production in Remshalden, external depots across the region. Our own fleet, our own production, our own workshop.
